On the anniversary of the ‘October 2000’ events, during which 13 Arab citizens of Israel were killed by police during demonstrations, Adalah legal centre draws attention to the ongoing problem of police brutality and lack of accountability in the Israeli police force.
I worked on a small graphic to illustrate most recent statistics, which show that a total of 11,282 complaints of police brutality were filed with the Israeli Police Investigation Unit in the past three years. That’s more than 10 complaints per day on average over three years!
More shockingly, some 73% of complaints were closed without investigation. Another 21% are closed after investigation…
